Tips for Keeping Overhead Low

4 min. read

Overhead, or the ongoing costs to operate a business, is always a concern when you run your own practice. That’s particularly true during your first couple of years in business — it can be challenging to identify what you truly need to operate while maintaining the right balance for your office. You’ll eventually settle into a good groove and figure out what your comfort level is when it comes to overhead expenses, but here are a few tips to help along the way.

Use your business plan as your foundation. Fine-tune your business plan, then use it as your guide. Once you have a plan about what you want your office to look like and how you want it to flow, you will have a better idea of what you truly need vs. want.

Analyze your space needs. Consulting your business plan will help you determine your office size, which is important because your lease is usually the biggest bite out of your budget. Before you sign anything, assess how much space you’ll truly need for your practice and rent accordingly.
