You’ve landed in a new place where you don’t have history or personal connections. Perhaps you’re joining a partner or spouse, or you heard good things about the city’s future, or maybe you’re just ready for change of scenery. Whatever the motivation, your bags are packed and you’re all in. But now what? How do you find patients?

1. Identify a neighborhood that aligns with your goals

Cities are big places, but life is lived within micro-pockets. Are you interested in working with mature folks? Kids? Families? Do you want to build a niche in a specialty, such as sports? When you’re looking at a new city where you have few (or no) existing relationships, research is your friend. Some great sources for information are realtors, chambers of commerce, business groups, and city governments.
